Transform A School, Lift A Community

Today, boosted with pride in St HOPE Public Schools, Oak Park is a place where things change. Our results are staggering. In 2003 less than 30% of Sac High seniors went to college. Today, 74% are accepted into four-year universities. PS 7, our K-8 school, is now a California Distinguished School and ranks first in API (Academic Performance Index) growth among Sacramento City Unified elementary schools. Triumph Preschool sends its students to kindergarten a year ahead of their peers academically.

Residential Oak Park streets surrounding Sac High are now dotted with students in purple Sac High sweatshirts comparing college acceptances. We have become an epicenter of hope and new expectations in our community. As we continue to increase our results for our existing schools, we are also breaking ground on an expansion of our model to schools and communities across the Sacramento region.

The Possibilities Are Endless

Our results have been quick and impressive, but we have only just begun. Here are some examples of what we’re doing today to expand:

** By sharing our methods, we can influence a wide array of people working in the education field, from other schools to politicians working at the capitol to researchers. Our doors are open to all of them for site visits or mentoring.

** The success of our model is proof that chronically underperforming schools can become schools of excellence. We are currently building a coalition of charter schools in Oak Park and South Sacramento.

**A core part of our curriculum is community service. We are currently developing a web site that will become a portal for service, a place where Sacramento youths can search volunteer opportunities, where they can share and compare experiences and where they can log in their hours.
