St. HOPE Public Schools Names New Principals at PS7 and Sacramento Charter High School

SACRAMENTO, CA—August 20, 2010—St. HOPE Public Schools (SHPS) announces the hiring of Public School 7 Principal Jim Scheible and Sacramento High Charter High School Principal Will Jarrell.

Jim Scheible, who took over as PS7 principal July 1, 2010, was born and raised in Curtis Park, where he attended Christian Brothers High School. After graduating from U.C. San Diego with a degree in American History and Economics, Scheible joined Teach for America and taught elementary school in the Bronx. He returned to Sacramento in 2006, joining PS7 as a 6th grade teacher. The following year, he became the middle school’s lead teacher and has held that position for the past three years.

“Jim Scheible has demonstrated a true commitment to the children we serve. His desire to see each and every child succeed and go to college is an inspiration to all of us. I am confident in his ability to lead PS7 to greater heights.” ST. HOPE Superintendent, Ed Manansala.

“I’m excited about continuing the great work that PS7 has done over the last seven years and building on the foundation that has been laid by the amazing staff we have.  In addition, I look forward to working with students, staff and families as a team to further improve our program and make a university education a reality for all of our students.” Jim Scheible

Will Jarrell, who began as Sac High principal on June 14, 2010 , received his BA in Political Science from the University of Missouri in 1984 and, through ROTC, was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Force. He left active duty in 1991 and earned his MBA from Embry-Riddle University. After he finished his teaching credential from California State University through the Troops to Teachers program, Jarrell taught in the Elk Grove Unified District. Jarrell went on to earn his administrative credential and served as Teacher-In-Charge and Vice Principal at Laguna Creek and Valley High Schools. He also spent seven years working with district teachers and administrators throughout California to implement research-based reform measures to improve academic achievement.

"Our previous principals Mr. Manansala, Mr. Diffenbaugh and the Sac High staff have made incredible progress over the last seven years, creating a school culture that is dedicated to high academic standards and a support system to ensure all students are successful. With 75% of last year’s seniors accepted to four year colleges, Sac High has become a serious, credible, and public, college prep alternative.  Moving forward it will be my job to ensure that we sustain this momentum, improving all of our key indicators of student success. While these indicators certainly include state and federal accountability measures, our most important measure is the academic preparation necessary for all Sac High students to be successful in college." Will Jarrel

After seven years, PS7 Principal Herinder Pegany will go on to the Fortune School of Education. Sac High Principal PK Diffenbaugh is leaving Sacramento to attend Harvard’s Doctor of Education Leadership program.
